17 day Oceanography Lesson 8-24th Jan 2027 - Grade 10,11 Experiential lessons for students & teacher observers, Andamans, India
The thinking power and capacity for judgement that become fully awakened in the growing 16- and 17-year-old demand nourishment for thought, as well as meaningful opportunities for action—particularly through tasks that can be accomplished through reason, logic and independent thinking. The relationship that an adolescent consciously and freely develops with the world around them calls for sustained engagement with practical life and with the achievements and challenges of modern technology. The rich and versatile inner life of the adolescent also needs opportunities to engage with significant questions concerning humanity and the environment. These questions will be introduced and explored through the lessons, encouraging students to encounter different perspectives, for one-sided judgement can easily lead to a dead end. Through an experiential approach to science, art, music and movement, the students will be given opportunities to engage both their thinking and their capacity for action while meeting the surging life of feeling characteristic of this age. As part of this approach, the programme will include a PADI Open Water Diving course, with opportunities for students who are already certified to undertake more advanced courses. The Oceanography Main Lesson will bring to life the rich diversity of the land and sea, while inviting adolescents to consider their relationship with the natural world and their responsibilities within it. Through the study of oceans, marine life, geology, climate and human interaction with the sea, students will encounter both the beauty and complexity of our living Earth. The teachers will bring these themes to the students through imagination, enthusiasm, scientific reasoning and direct experience, creating a dynamic learning environment in which observation, questioning, practical activity and reflection work together.
