Nienke Roest
I'm a geography teacher at the Karel de Grote College in Nijmegen, Netherlands. This is also the city where I live and share an apartment with one of my best friends. The relaxed atmosphere, my friends and family who stay nearby, always make me feel at home and I carry this with me, even when I travel overseas and cycle to other parts Holland and Switzerland. I studied in a a Waldorf school, from Kindergarten up to 12th grade and after that I worked and traveled around the world for a year , when I turned 19. I like to listen to music and play the guitar and ukulele. My other passion is hiking - I have walked in the remote areas of the of the Himalayas, parts of Europe and Africa. My interest in the world, its diverse cultures and living in unfamiliar places, has grown stronger with age.
I now understand the depth and beauty of the Steiner curriculum and this has been the foundation of my personal and professional development, as a Waldorf teacher. I did four internships at different schools and lived in Uganda (Africa) for six months, for my minor, as part of my Bachelor's degree . After receiving my degree in Geography, from the HAN University of applied sciences, I enrolled for my Master’s in Geo-Communication, at the Utrecht University. This was followed by an additional Master's in Education, at Radboud University, in Nijmegen.
